Development Ready’s podcast brings together the sharpest minds in the property industry to discuss the critical issues affecting property development across Australia
With more than 20 years’ experience in the property and construction industry, Jon has delivered numerous high profile, large scale construction projects.
Throughout the interview, Jon shares his knowledge insight into Melbourne’s property industry, reflecting on change over recent decades – from the mid 90’s transformation of the Southbank precinct, to the challenges and opportunities arising from current market conditions.
Summarising his thoughts on where the market is going over the next two years Jon looks to population growth and demand for dwellings and infrastructure “The population growth is not slowing… and that is the absolute driver. Broadly, I’m fairly upbeat and positive about where the market’s going. “
Reflecting on his decision to start SEMZ as a one man band, Jon admits he took a risk. “I have four children.. but I believe in the importance of following my passion. You’ve got to have a crack, and follow your passion to make it happen.”
Six years on and now partnering with Ken Santamaria to expand the SEMZ offering to include Project Management services, Jon talks extensively about the importance of culture; “Culture is everything. Fundamentally, Ken and I both want a great place to work, and that’s our starting point.. At SEMZ, it’s about growing the business with like-minded clients who are keen to achieve great outcomes, while having fun along the way.”
